Interview Check List #21: Did I pick up on “go” signals; little things that told me I should keep talking, things like the interviewer nodding or saying “tell me more”?

If you didn’t, you’ll come across as stiff or perhaps even unfriendly.  People hire people, not resumes, so employers will want to make an effort to get to know you.  If you ignore their visual and verbal cues, an interviewer may conclude you’re not an easy person to work with.

If you notice you’re nervous and somewhat reserved as a result, just go and then do the best you can.  Employers have been on the other side of the desk too – - – they know what it’s like to feel you’re under a spotlight.  Try to remember that employers want to find someone they will like and someone they will want to work with. Make the effort to be friendly and responsive and employers will likely do the same.
